Way back when, some of you may remember that I made 3 cleaning products as a bridal shower gift for a friend. I've already covered the homemade laundry soap and a natural air freshener. Today I am talking about a multi purpose cleaner, the recipe for which I got from Keeper of the Home .
I have heard and read that the rate of air pollution inside the home is ten times more than outside (even up to 100 times more in extreme cases). Household cleaners are part of the reason for this. According to Goes-Green, "Recent study shows that cancer is the second leading cause of death in Canada. It is mostly seen among the children who are exposed to the chemicals that are being used at home," and "State of California study reveals that 40% of 2,435 pesticide-poisoning in one year were caused due to the exposure to home cleaning products." There are also environmental factors to consider from these cleaners going down the drain. Check the labels on your cleaners and see how they rate. If you desire a natural, safe, simple alternative this should do the trick.
Multi Purpose Cleaner
-water
-few squirts castile soap
-few drops tea tree oil
The two working ingredients in this cleaner are castile soap and tea tree oil. Castile soap is a great environmental option as it is made from vegetable fat as opposed to synthetic processes or tallow from animals. It is also gentle and has a faster biodegradability. Tea tree oil is a natural antifungal, antibacterial, antiviral, and anti-infection oil.
This cleaner is so incredibly simple to make and just as simple to use. Be sure to shake the bottle gently before each use, then spray onto the surface you intend to clean, and scrub away. It can be used all around the home for general cleaning and dusting. I personally use it most often on the counter tops in the bathroom. Because it is natural and the castile soap is gentle, it may require a little more elbow grease than Scrub Free though. I think it's worth it.
What natural/homemade/alternative cleaners have you used?
I've taught the kids to use newspaper on the mirrors, streak free mirrors are a blessing! We use mostly melaluca products that we were blessed with. They last forever.
ReplyDeleteI use orange vinegar & Shaklee Basic H2 for almost all my cleaning needs but I think I will try this clean when I'm out of Basic H2. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI use white vinegar, tea tree oil and water in a spray bottle.
