As I've expressed a couple of times in past posts, Brad and I recently became vegetarians (it's actually been about 4 months now, wow). It is a very personal decision, and for us it really ties into our natural, healthy, eco-friendly quest in life. Thus I thought it would be a good topic for discussion here.
I've moved to a new website! Head on over to Heartful Habits to read the post 3 Reasons Why I'm a Vegetarian. Thanks!
I didn't know you guys had become vegetarians! Welcome to the veggie world. I have been a vegetarian since I was your age (many years ago) and wouldn't want to eat any other way. I don't miss meat at all. Thanks for your informative posts, that give us readers a glimpse into your lives and the many changes you are making, to make our world a better place. Mrs A
ReplyDeleteWhile vegetarian diets do eliminate the need for pasture land, they can be destructive to the planet. Be aware that soy products have strong affects on the planet. The mono-cropping of soy beans means the destruction of land in places like Brazil. Major chunks of rain forests have been cleared for the production of soy.
ReplyDeleteIf you're going to go vegetarian keep these things in mind. Do research on the negatives to the vegetarian diet. While some are going to be horribly negative, glean the information you can that will help you be eco-concious in an effective way.
The efficacy of some of the efforts by people toward being earth friendly, and toward the mitigation of human affects on the planet, can be next to nothing if they aren't directed in the right way.
Amanada, thanks so much for showing the other side as well! My husband and I avoid soy for the most part, though it is true that many vegetarians consume a lot of it.
ReplyDeleteYour post reflects the same reasons I moved to a vegan diet. I was vegetarian for a year and have now been vegan for 10 months. I love your blog since along with going vegan I am also working at making healthier life decisions. Another good show to check out is Forks over Knives if you haven't seen it yet. Thanks for all you share!
ReplyDeleteRH, that is wonderful to hear! Thank you for the encouragement. I have heard of Forks and Knives, but haven't seen it yet. I will check it out for sure.
