Chalkboard Organization

As we have been working to eliminate plastics and become more repurposeful in our house, we have been collecting jars for storage.  Between washing and keeping emptied ones and being given many from my generous mother-in-law, our fridge and pantry are full of them.  The only problem we were running into once not being able to tell the difference between steel cut oats and rolled oats, baking soda and baking powder, etc.  Our solution (inspired by a pin on Pinterest) is chalkboard paint.

Simple to do, looks awesome, and is reusable!

How do you keep your kitchen organized?

  2. I saw this too on pinterest and thought it a brilliant idea...my husband asked what happened when the chalk was wiped off of the lids of flour that is similar and I wasn't sure. Have you had a problem with them getting wiped off?

    1. Sounds like you have a very practical husband. It's nice to have them to think of everything. We haven't had any issues though with the writing rubbing off. We're just careful not to wipe the tops with our hands or sleeves. It hasn't been a big deal.

i am always drawn to the quirky character: on seinfeld i love george, on friends i love chandler and ross, etc.

  4. I use envelope labels. I fold over the edge just a bit for easy removal. I don't have to remove them very often because I repeatedly use the same jar for the same contents. I also use jars for leftovers, but we know what's in them. The chalkboard idea is great...I just don't know when I would have time to paint the lids. Very cute, though!

  5. I found out that white crayon stays on the lid longer than white chalk. It comes off really easy as well.

  6. Hi. I'm stopping by from Crunchy Betty. I know what you mean about not being able to tell one thing from another - especially a problem for my kids and my husband!
I love the chalkboard paint idea. I have been experimenting with chalkboard contact paper and a chalk marker. So far so good, just waiting to see how it holds up to washing the jars.
