Don't be a Meathead - Tofu Stir Fry

Though I've never had any moral or heath concerns regarding the consumption of meat, I rarely prepare it in my meals.  I just generally don't enjoy the flavour, texture, etc of meat.  For this reason, and since I'm going on this health kick, Brad and I decided to embark upon the wonderful world of tofu.  Here's how it went.

I actually really enjoyed it!  I had expected it to taste like nothing, as everyone says, and thus not notice it, but I genuinely preferred the tofu over pork, chicken, or beef.  The lessons we learned along the way were to make sure the tofu cubes were very small, and also to use oil when frying.  We weren't going to, just to cut out some fat, but we really wanted the crispiness.  It turned out great!

 Bonus:
While we were out doing our grocery shopping today, I also picked up bamboo knitting needles, soy wool yarn and an introduction to knitting book which I got all on a smokin' deal.  I'm excited to learn!

  1. I've often thought I should try tofu as I also don't really love meat except chicken. I just had no idea where to start or how to use it. I am now going to try some in a stirfry and have the heads up to get it crispy with oil! Thanks!

  2. I am glad you thought of us trying tofu. I didn't think I would really like tofu going into it, but I did. I am still undecided if tofu is better than cubed chicken, but it is way better than red meat. I will love eating this in the future.

I am excited for you to learn knitting so you can make awesome knitting things. I am not sure what one makes with knitting besides scarves and tuques.

  3. I'm so excited that you have started up a blog and am looking forward to your adventures as you explore a natural and healthy lifestyle. As a vegetarian and a knitter, I was especially delighted with this particular blog. Need help? Just ask and I'd be happy to help you out:)

  4. And her awesome friend ETHAAAAAAAAN!

I don't like meat that's not meat. I genuinely don't even really like poultry that much anymore. Steak and seafood only. And ham.

  5. Some how, I missed this one, but I am so glad I found it as I have some tofu in my fridge that I need to use. I think I will try doing this. Did you fry it up before adding the veggies, or just with them?
We dont' eat a whole lotta meat, mostly chicken when we do. Beef is hard on Greg's system and let's be real, I have 2 kids that hate meat. Maybe you can send me the recipe. Thanks!
